BRIDPORT EVENT
29th June 2012
Our June event took place at Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club, funnily enough located in West Dorset. For our international readers West Dorset lies in the west of the county of Dorset in the UK. Paula I hope you are reading this.
Jeff and i left home with the weather looking decidedly wet, something we have got used to over the last few weeks or even months. After visiting Tesco in Dorchester to top up the drinking voucher funds the weather brightened up considerably. On arrival we had our normal Coffee and Bacon Roll before setting off in a Force 6 blowing in off the sea.
The first hole is relatively sheltered but the full force of the wind hits you on the second when you are playing into the prevailing winds. Our group Jeff, Brian Dave and me battled on not scoring very highly but enjoying our golf. Reaching the 6th signature hole which is about a 130 yard par 3 with the tee about 30 metres above the green we all had to make a decision as to which club we should take and we all ended up with varying degrees of failure.
Just to digress for a minute, while collecting dog food from a local dog food supplier somebody thought my iphone might be better in their possession than mine so I was left without my normal means of taking pictures. I had brought another phone with me but could not really remember how to take pictures with it and not having my reading glasses with me and being half blind I could not see where I was supposed to save them. Result no pictures.
A Superb Escape |
The competition was won by "Pinkie" Davis with 28 points, second was Jeff Miller with if I remember 26 points and thirdly was yours truly with a magnificent 24 points. The low scoring obviously reflects the difficulty of the conditions we played in ( our excuses). Full results to be posted shortly. The Bridport trophy would have been presented if "bob the Builder" had remembered to bring it along with the 2's list etc.
At the after golf meal it was unanimously agreed that when Paula Trickey replies to our email asking her to become our first Honourary International member we might have to throw out Paul " Bob the builder" Trickey. For the second month in succession we were treated to sausages on Bubble and squeak and we wondered if this is to be the next fad happening in golf.
The competition on the blog as to whether Paula was better looking and had a better golf swing than " Bob tne Builder" was eventually won by Pinkie who was selected from the numerous entrants- 1. Dexter obviously couldn't get onto the site because of the overwhelming response.

Unfortunately "Shiner " couldn't make it and we were all looking forward to a repeat Barton on Sea performance where he lost 22 balls as his dear friends the adders have now taken up residence at Bridport.

Brian Davis |
To finish on a sad note Brian has told us that this might be the last time he is able to play with us due to poor health. This will be a great loss to our society but we hope in the future he might feel well enough to play with us again. I know he will probably not want any recognition but Brian has been a stalwart of the society and i am sure that I speak for us all when I say that he will be missed if this was his last outing. He has always supported us in attending all events and has never been frightened of saying what he thought when he considered what we were doing was wrong.
Unfortunately that is 2 members we have lost this year through ill health the other being Bill Needs and I think it will be fitting that we try and replenish our trophy cabinet with a B and B trophy . What do others think.
Finally just a reminder that our next meet will be at Hamptworth on the last Friday of July.
