Gamesmaker Secretary |
Great News - Your secretary is back.
You might think it is good news that your secretary has returned from 9 weeks at the Olympics at Weymouth and Portland or then again you might not.
Thanks to Dexter for organising the Dudsbury outing and I hear he did a great job.
This post is not entirely about golf but how the Olympics and Paralympics have changed my thinking about relationships with other people, our country and many other things. I met and worked with some fantastic people and I believe we will all be friends for ever.

One of the things I learnt was that you don't need lots of material things, you need good relationships, friends and to have respect for others. I met an athlete from the US team a guy with 2 prosthetic legs named Brad who when I asked him if he was in with a chance of winning a medal replied " It has taken 2 1/2 years training to get here and I am just so pleased to have made the team"

Betsy and Morrow |
Being a Gamesmaker led me to think what I have done in my life that I should be most proud of and one thing was the charity golf days that we had for Wills Wheelchair and the other was the one in which we bought Monty our assistance dog. Unfortunately Will has been seriously ill in the last few weeks and I am sure you would join me in wishing him well. During the Paralympic games I met a wonderful lady coach from the US team who also looked after Morrow an assistance dog similar to the Woofability dogs. This set me thinking that perhaps it might be time to repair our links with Woofability so I arranged for Jenny, Andy and Sarah to bring some dogs and meet up with Betsy and Morrow which we did. we had a long chat afterwards about where they were going and how they have now resolved the past differences we might have had with them and personally I am pleased that I have taken up in my trustee role again. During our conversation I volunteered to carry out a Sky Dive in October so if any one reading this wants to make a pledge or if you want to do your own jump please contact details on the attached poster.
I know that this is not about golf but I promise that the next post will be.
...well said John. Having lived abroad for 5 years I now appreciate every day back in UK. The best country in the world for sure...
