How The Redpost Golf Society started

Our logo

Several people in the past have asked me how The Redpost Golf Society came to be in existence, so to answer those who might be thinking the same thing I am now going to tell you once and for all  how we came to be formed.
The Greyhound where it all started
In our local pub The Greyhoumd which was then run by Ian and Margaret who later beccame members there used to be a Friday night gathering of local guys who went there mainly for a drink (or lots of drinks),this assembly was called the Friday night club. On one riday we were talking about golf and a suggestion was made that we form a golf society. Thus the Friday Night Golf Society was first formulated and some of us agreed to get our first event organised.
At the time many of the members did not know whether a golf club was where we were going to play or the thing you hit the ball with.
Undaunted we arranged our first event at Ferndown Forest Golf Club in Ferndown in Dorset. On this first excursion some heated discussion took place between one new member and the rest of the group as to ehether we should not charge any more than £20 for a game of golf, coffee and bacon roll and 2 course meal. After finding out that there were not many golf clubs in our area that would provide this for this price he shortly afterwards left.
The real Redpost
Following this we all thought it might be a good idea if we loosened our our ties with The Greyhound as this would open up membership to others who were not Friday night drinkers and we would not feel obliged to play golf somewhere and return to the pub for a meal. We therefore renamed the society The Redpost Golf Society, the Redpost being a famous landmark signpost on the A31 road nearby.
Since we started in 2005 we have plodded on with some people leaving and more joining the golf society.
On 4 occasions we have held charity golf days and have raised in the region of £12000 for local causes.
For some years we were indebted to www.societgolfing.co.uk for somewhere to post event details and results etc but we now have our own website www.redpost-golf-society.co.uk and blog www.redpost-golf.blogspot.com which we hope you will visit and enjoy reading more about us.
To try and generate some income and keep our costs down as low as possible, on our blog  we post reviews on golf clubs and their courses and list what we consider are the best golf clubs that we have played, review golf equipment, mainly items that our members have bought, we inform where to buy the best discount golf items, run an online store, post helpful golf tips and humorous golf videos and talk about anything to do with golf that might be of interest to members and visitors .
I hope that this will explain how The Redpost Golf Society came into existence and we would welcome any comments you care to make about this post.
Anyone reading this would lives in Dorset and would like to join us or anyone visiting the area and looking for a game will be made most welcome.
