We have a male member who seems to favour pink so when I saw these I thought these would go really well with Russel's pink shirt.

A funny story on the way to a golf course

I just had to post this as it tickled my fancy

Tiger Woods turned up at a remote garage way out in the sticks in Ireland desperately needing fuel .

The old pump attendant had never seen such a flashy B.M.W ., and inspected the car all over.
Upon filling the car ,Tiger standing next to the attendant goes into his pocket to pull out some cash, and in doing so, two tees fell to the ground.

The attendant asked, what are those things laddie?. Tiger replied ' well there for puting my balls on when I drive......after a slight pause the attendant replied' My Dear Mother those guys at B.M.W. they think of everything".
With acknowledgement to Keith Davis

How The Redpost Golf Society started

Our logo

Several people in the past have asked me how The Redpost Golf Society came to be in existence, so to answer those who might be thinking the same thing I am now going to tell you once and for all  how we came to be formed.
The Greyhound where it all started
In our local pub The Greyhoumd which was then run by Ian and Margaret who later beccame members there used to be a Friday night gathering of local guys who went there mainly for a drink (or lots of drinks),this assembly was called the Friday night club. On one riday we were talking about golf and a suggestion was made that we form a golf society. Thus the Friday Night Golf Society was first formulated and some of us agreed to get our first event organised.
At the time many of the members did not know whether a golf club was where we were going to play or the thing you hit the ball with.
Undaunted we arranged our first event at Ferndown Forest Golf Club in Ferndown in Dorset. On this first excursion some heated discussion took place between one new member and the rest of the group as to ehether we should not charge any more than £20 for a game of golf, coffee and bacon roll and 2 course meal. After finding out that there were not many golf clubs in our area that would provide this for this price he shortly afterwards left.
The real Redpost
Following this we all thought it might be a good idea if we loosened our our ties with The Greyhound as this would open up membership to others who were not Friday night drinkers and we would not feel obliged to play golf somewhere and return to the pub for a meal. We therefore renamed the society The Redpost Golf Society, the Redpost being a famous landmark signpost on the A31 road nearby.
Since we started in 2005 we have plodded on with some people leaving and more joining the golf society.
On 4 occasions we have held charity golf days and have raised in the region of £12000 for local causes.
For some years we were indebted to www.societgolfing.co.uk for somewhere to post event details and results etc but we now have our own website www.redpost-golf-society.co.uk and blog www.redpost-golf.blogspot.com which we hope you will visit and enjoy reading more about us.
To try and generate some income and keep our costs down as low as possible, on our blog  we post reviews on golf clubs and their courses and list what we consider are the best golf clubs that we have played, review golf equipment, mainly items that our members have bought, we inform where to buy the best discount golf items, run an online store, post helpful golf tips and humorous golf videos and talk about anything to do with golf that might be of interest to members and visitors .
I hope that this will explain how The Redpost Golf Society came into existence and we would welcome any comments you care to make about this post.
Anyone reading this would lives in Dorset and would like to join us or anyone visiting the area and looking for a game will be made most welcome.

Rushmore Golf Club May Event

Rushmore Golf Club May Event

Ready for the off
The sun again shone down on us yet again at this unique golf course. With 14 members signed up to play and 12 actually turning up it was a day where once again the numbers had increased.

It was good to see Lord Bree back with us even though his arm was full off cortisone, but he was determined to put Trick in his place for some substandard bricklaying. Welcome also to Mark Adam one of Tricks disciples and champion bricklayers and we hope to see him again at future events. The event was won yet again by Rob smith and even separating him from his bosom buddies Mark and Mike does not seem to deter him from winning. Second was Russel wearing his "race for life" shirt (isn't that for girlie's?) and the secretary makes no apologies for initially not placing him in a podium position as if he had checked his card he would have seen that the marker had incorrectly put his own score in the overall points box. Third was Ken on count back (yet to be validated by the handicap secretary), Nearest the pin and Longest drive were both won by "Pinkie" Davis.
Another great day rounded off by a somewhat different meal of Bangers and Bubble and Squeak followed by copious amounts of Fruit crumble and custard generously donated by George and Jeff as we had already paid for their meals before we found out that they were not playing. To overcome any potential deficit to society funds in the future it was agreed by all attending that prior to the next event at Bridport we all deposit with the Treasurer £20 so that if you do not turn up and don't let anyone know in good time we will use your 20 quid.
Anyone reading this who has not played at Rushmore before should pay it a visit as it is a lovely parkland course with more than enough water and we would recommend it.

Organise a Golf Event

Who we are.......
RPGS
Redpost

The Redpost Golf Society  based in Dorset in the UK have now run 4 Charity events and raised in excess of £12000 and would like to pass on to anyone who has an interest in golf and is looking to run a Charity golf day how we have done it and hope it proves helpful.Organising a golf day is great fun and rewarding but it is hard work and you need to constantly badger people to help you out.

How we have done it .......pound coins
  • First select your chosen cause and set a realistic target
  • Seek a local business as a major sponsor. We were lucky enough to find the Hearn Group of Companies in Dorchester and they have made a regular contribution to all of our eventsHearn Group
  • Book a golf course well in advance of the event and settle the amount they want to charge and agree what is to be provided. This needs to include what food and refreshments Bulbury Woods 14th Holethey can offer, free use of buggies to place advertising banners on the course, Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive markers and anything else you can think of. If you stress that it is for charity they are normally happy to help financially.
  • Happy TeamStart getting teams to enter we try to get teams of 4 which means that it is easier to organise when they are playing. But don't turn down single players as you can usually make up more teams from these single players.
  • Find sponsors for each hole. We get them to pay a set amount for the hole Purbeck Shooting School( charge more for 1 and 18 as most sponsors seem to like these holes). We ask if they are to provide their own advertising banner to place around the hole or if they would like us to provide one. we have an arrangement with a manufacturer so we make a small profit on this.
  • OrDraw envelopesganise a draw to be drawn on the day. We have in our latest event charged £10 for an envelope which includes draw tickets and an entry into the putting competition ,Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive. Anyone without the tickets cannot enter the competitions. We had about a 95% take up.
  • Get prizes. A good source of prizes are from local golf clubs who are usually willing to donate Winners prizegreen fee tickets especially if you have played on their course. We have also approached with great success,  local organisations providing such things as Shepherds Hut holidays, Gliding, Zorbing, Shooting and alpaca walking. You will need to buy trophies as you see fit for overall winner, Nearest Pin, longest Drive, Champion Putter etc.
  • Wscorecarde play full handicap scoring for both team competition and individual. this makes it slightly easier for the person collating the scores. For the team score we count the best 2 scores for the first 6 holes, the best 3 scores on holes 7 to 12 and all scores on the last 6 holes. Anyone who has reasonable Excel skills can easily develop a programme to add up these scores, if not we are happy to sell you a copy of ours at nominal cost. you can contact us on www.redpost-golf-society.co.uk We also run a yellow ball competition and a nearest the mystery prize on the 18th fairway. The way the yellow ball competition works is that each team starts with a yellow ball and each player in turn has to use this ball. All the scores with this ball are added up at the end of the round and we give a prize usually a green fee voucher to the winning team. If the ball gets lost the team does not qualify. A dustbin is placed on the 18th fairway at an average driving length so the big hitters have to throttle down if they want to win and the highest handicappers still have a chance of winning. the prize is anything we need to get rid of and has included a beer cooler, a battery drill and a case of beer.
  • We have also held auctions after the golf and we have put up lots such as holidays, tickets to gavelsports events, restaurant vouchers, football club shirts and anything else that you can cajole people and businesses into giving. We have been lucky that we have been able to enlist the services of a local farmer who has conducted many auctions and is also an entertainer in his own right. Make sure any one who is going to run the auction is "pushy" so you get as much from the auction as possible.
  • A general point is to make sure that you have enough people helping your golf dayand they all need to know what you want them to do. We have enlisted the help of a lovely lady who registers all the players, enters scores and sells the £10 envelopes, she is  probably the reason we get such a good uptake in selling these!
Finally remember what you are doing this for-
money money moneyTo raise as much money for your Chosen Charity by any means you canthink of!
HAVE FUN AND A SUCCESSFUL DAY
