Redpost Golf- our Treasurer

Have you ever wondered what the Treasurer gets up to when not playing golf....
Look no further

Spotted at The Black Bear, Wool

Scary or What  ?????

I am definitely back.

I am now definitely back

Having been at the Olympics as a Gamesmaker and subsequently suffering major disruptions to my existence I am now in a slightly more settled situation and ready to entertain you again or bore you with more posts to the blog.

Firstly apologies for not posting results of August and September competitions on either the website or here but rest assured they will be done pronto.
I was unable to play at the August comp at Dudsbury but did play at Crane Valley in September and have just finished at Sherborne.

It was good to see a new member attending at Dudsbury- Mark Galpin and we hope that this will be the first of many days out with us.

Crane Valley was another great outing and was enjoyed by all 12 of us who played

I can remember Sherborne very clearly as I WON closely followed by Mark Adam and Trick. Even though I say it myself I was pretty awesome.
Nearest the Pin was won by Mark Adam and Longest Drive was yet another Mark- Muspratt.

We are getting to the point where we can not take any more new members called Mark as both Sectretary, Treasurer and Dexter The assistant under secretary to the Secretary and B and B man who thought that the Longest Drive winners name was S'mee.

Twiggy-Woofability Patron with Twiggy
One thing I am pleased to be able to tell you is that we have now linked up again with Woofability as they have now resolved all the issues that Bill and I as trustees had previously. Bill and I went to their new establishment at the back of Crane Valley and we are both pleased with the progress they have made and we think are deserving of our renewed support. as you all know because I took money off you I have carried out a Sky Dive to raise funds for the Charity.

It is fast approaching the end of this golfing year and as usual we would dearly love someone to take over the administrative tasks even for only a year. Both Dave and I have been Sec and Treasurer for 7 years and we would like a break. The Society is in good shape with not a great number of members but with a group of about 12 who get on together and i think all enjoy our golf win or lose so anyone willing to do these jobs for a year would not have too much hassle.

Bill organising his Charity day
It is Bills intention to have a Charity day for Help for Heroes in June and I am going to organise one for Woofability in September/October time. Another thing we all need to commit to and organise is another Tour, Dexter has suggested that we should go somewhere like France and hopefully we will have details by the AGM in January and can then decide what time of the year and get some sort of commitment from members.

Dexters Gaff
Dexter would also like to combine our May golf day with invited Guests from his B and B. He will supply prizes etc and it will cost no more to members than what we already pay at Dudsbury or The Dorset. it would be good for this one day if we could revert to our old ways of wearing shirts and ties etc as it promises to be more upmarket than our usual meetings.

Mr and Mrs Long Suffering Bree
Have a good think about the above and I hope to hear from you soon.

Redpost Golf - I'm back!

Gamesmaker Secretary

Great News - Your secretary is back.

You might think it is good news that your secretary has returned from 9 weeks at the Olympics at Weymouth and Portland or then again you might  not.
Thanks to Dexter for organising the Dudsbury outing and I hear he did a great job.
This post is not entirely about golf but how the Olympics and Paralympics have changed my thinking about relationships with other people, our country and many other things. I met and worked with some fantastic people and I believe we will all be friends for ever.
Olympic Sailing Venu
Having spoken to lots of people from other countries who enthused about the games, the way that they were so kindly treated by people from this country and the spectacular venue at Weymouth and Portland, it makes you feel proud to be British. Instead of continually knocking our own country we should be extremely grateful that we are living here. It doesn't help when you see union leaders immediately after the games threatening upheaval to get more money.
One of the things I learnt was that you don't need lots of material things, you need good relationships, friends and to have respect for others. I met an athlete from the US team a guy with 2 prosthetic legs named Brad who when I asked him if he was in with a chance of winning a medal replied    " It has taken 2 1/2 years training to get here and I am just so pleased to have made the team"
Betsy and Morrow
Being a Gamesmaker led me to think what I have done in my life that I should be most proud of and one thing was the charity golf days that we had for Wills Wheelchair and the other was the one in which we bought Monty our assistance dog. Unfortunately Will has been seriously ill in the last few weeks and I am sure you would join me in wishing him well. During the Paralympic games I met a wonderful lady coach from the US team who also looked after Morrow an assistance dog similar to the Woofability dogs. This set me thinking that perhaps it might be time to repair our links with Woofability so I arranged for Jenny, Andy and Sarah to bring some dogs and meet up with Betsy and Morrow which we did. we had a long chat afterwards about where they were going and how they have now resolved the past differences we might have had with them and personally I am pleased that I have taken up in my trustee role again. During our conversation I volunteered to carry out a Sky Dive in October so if any one reading this wants to make a pledge or if you want to do your own jump please contact details on the attached poster.
I know that this is not about golf but I promise that the next post will be.

Redpost Golf-July Event at Hamptworth Golf Club

Yet another fine day for golf, after all of the recent bad weather we were blessed wiith a lovely day on the superb Hamptworth course in Hampshire.Only 8 players this month but I believe it was quality and not quantity that attended. We definitely have a star player in the making in our midst (or it might be a bandit) Robin Smith. He won with a great 39 ponts if I remember correctly leading the second placed player Ken Hann and Anon (can't remember who that was) by 11 points. Anon was second on countback and Ken was third. Where is Jeff when you need him! The Longest Drive was won by someone but the Nearest Pin wasn't nor was the Nearest the Pin with the second shot on another hole. Please to say that Pinkie did not win anything and I think this was just reward for taking the p..s out of me on the 13th hole for putting 2 balls into the lake.I don't want to boast but if anyone wants to know mow I got a fantastic birdie on the Par 4 5th I am more than happy to explain how it was achieved. In fact I will tell you now.Placing my Srixon ball on my nice pink tee donated to me by Bill Needs and using my Wilson Driver, I hit a magnificent drive into the light rough to the left of one of the huge fairway bunkers and followed this up with a superbly judged 6 iron approach shot which pitched on to the top of of the greenside bunker ending up with the ball 20feet from the pin.Reading the line perfectly allowing for the right to left slope on the green the ball dropped perfectly into the hole. Birdie!! That is how you do it Russ.

following my report of last month it was good to see Brian back with us again after his 2 day retirement.I look forward to seeing you all at Dudsbury in August and await the verified results from the handicap secretary which I will post on the Redpost Website and the Redpost Blog

Redpost Golf- Silly story

Just to keep you amused

One pleasant afternoon, a Priest and a Nun were out golfing. The father deferred to the Nun on the first hole, and she hit a nice ball towards the green. The Father tees up, then smacks the ball into the woods.
"Damn it! #$*^&%$#%^@$# %#&^%&!$, I MISSED!" he cries.
"Father!" says the Nun, "You should watch your language. The Lord will not like it."
The second hole comes up. The father tees off, and the ball once again goes sailing into the woods.
"Damn it! #$*^&^%$#%^@$#, I MISSED!" he cries.
"Father!" says the Nun, "Watch what you say! It is Blasphemy!"
On the third hole, the father again tees up his ball. Once again, the ball sails wide, this time landing in the water hazard.
"Damn it! #$*^&^%$#%^@$#, I MISSED!" he cries.
As the Nun starts to speak, a great bolt of lightning sails down from the sky and strikes the Nun, reducing her to ash.
From the sky comes a booming voice: "Damn it! #$*^&^%$#%^@$#, I MISSED!"

Redpost Golf - Really useful tips for Beginners.

This is the first Redpost Golf guest blog we have posted and our thanks go to its author Shane.

Golf is one of the most popular games you can play, and it is coming into season very soon, in most areas. Many take the game up over the summer and a few tips can help anybody enjoy the game more.
It is always recommended to seek a golf professional for lessons if you are just starting out, but you can also use these five drills to help you play better golf.
Five Golf Drills for Lower Scores
1.  The Gate Drill
When playing golf we use our putter more than any other club in the bag. This means you need to spend more time working on putting than any other part of your game … and the gate drill can help. It is very simple to set up and all you need are two golf tees, a few golf balls and your putter. This drill will help you start the ball on your line more often, which is the first key to rolling good putts.
Choose a spot on the putting green and read the putt as you normally would. Then, set up two tees about 3 feet from your ball on the line you intend to hit the ball on. The tees should be set up just far enough apart from each other for the golf ball to fit through. Now, practice rolling putts through the set of tees.
2.  The Ladder Drill
You can use the ladder drill for both chipping and putting to help with your distance control. It is very easy to use, and all you need is your putter or a club to chip with and five golf balls. Hit the first one to the furthest edge of the green from you, then hit the next one as close to the first one as possible without going farther than it. Continue through your set of five balls trying to hit the next one as close to the previous without going past it.
3.  Position #1
Just as there are many Mustang parts that make this amazing piece of machinery run, there are many parts to the golf swing. However, if you don't start your swing properly it will be hard to finish it correctly.
The first part of the swing is getting the club to position one, which is with the butt end of the club pointing at your belt buckle and the club head farther away from your body than your hands. The club should be parallel with the ground in this position, and if you simply practice this position a few times before hitting the ball, you will start to do it naturally within your swing.
4.  Feet Together Drill
Another great swing drill that helps golfers get the right upper body turn within their swing is the feet together drill. This drill is very simple and should be practiced with a shorter iron. Just set up to the golf ball as if you normally would, but with your feet together. This takes all the lower body movement out of the swing and allows your body to feel the upper body turn against your lower body properly.
5.  From Your Knees
Just as you can show off a Mustang with the different CJ Pony Mustang decals, you can show off by hitting balls from your knees. Do this with a driver and tee the ball up very high. You may also want to put down a towel to protect your pants from the dirt. Then, just practice hitting balls from your knees by swinging the golf clubs around your body. This helps to shallow out the swing and enables you feel your upper body swing the club properly.
By using these five drills you can practice better, which will translate to better shots on the golf course. Try them out and see which ones you like. And remember, taking a few lessons is never a bad idea if you want to play better golf.

Redpost Golf- Metal Core Golf Ball

DRY FOR A CHANGE

Heres something you probably have not seen before

The Omen Metal Core Golf Ball by OnCore Golf

the omen metal core golf ball A new metal core golf ball by OnCore Golf called "the Omen".  Yes you read correctly, this ball has a metal core, which is unlike all other golf balls you've ever played, which generally feature solid, polymer cores of varying characteristics.  So what's the theory behind the design of this ball?
From the OnCore Golf website.
The proprietary alloy used in our hollow-metal core combined with ultra-high performance polymer composite blends in the mantle layer shifts the ball's weight to the perimeter, increasing the Moment of Inertia and reducing sidespin. The result is a straighter drive, more accurate iron shots, and laser-straight putts.
The guys at OnCore Golf were nice enough to send out a sleeve for me to test on the course and I have to say I was skeptical at first.  I'm fairly traditional when it comes to golf equipment, so the idea of a ball with a hollow metal core was odd to say the least.  I got out on the course and played approximately 9 holes with The Omen and a Pro V1x, which is my normal ball.  I wanted to play the two balls side by side so I could get a real world comparison of how the Omen matched up against tried and tested balls.
The Driver - What I first noticed with tee shots was that the ball was very loud.  Actually, I should say that the ball seemed to increase the sound level of the driver at impact.  The metal core reacting with a titanium driver face gave off a louder "ping" than normal, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it was noticeable.  After hitting a few tee shots with the Omen and a Pro V1x, the Omen was just slightly behind the Titleist in distance.  Probably only 5-8 yards at most, and it's difficult to attribute this to just the ball, when it could have been wind or even fairway conditions.  The Omen had a nice trajectory and wanted to go straight.  Now don't get me wrong, you can slice or hook the hell out of this ball too...believe me I did it.  But overall the Omen performed equally as well off the tee as the Titleist and may have been just a bit straighter. I think that golfers with slightly slower swing speeds might benefit from this ball as it definitely has less side spin, which should result in straighter shots.
Irons - I was worried that with the Omen's metal core that the feel off the clubface wouldn't be as soft as the Pro V1x, but it actually had a very good feel.  Again, the Omen was very straight, but again, I noticed a slight loss of distance compared to the Titleist.  Not much mind you, but the Omen didn't seem to be coming off the face quite as hot as the Pro V1x.  The Omen did produce excellent spin and stopped on a dime with 5-PW iron shots.
Chipping & Putting - Again, I was concerned with how the Omen would feel and perform with shots that required good touch and feel.  Chipping and pitch shots felt great and reacted very well on the greens.  The ball rolled nicely when putting and had a nice feel off the putter.  I can't say that it rolled any straighter or truer than the Titleist, but it was definitely comparable feel wise.
Overall Thoughts - I have to say that I wasn't expecting the Omen to perform as well as it did against the Titleist ball.  The only major downsides I could find were the slight distance disparity between the Omen and Pro V1x and the increased sound off the tee.  I think this ball would be an excellent choice for mid to higher  handicap golfers.  And I wouldn't doubt that many golfers in this category would see an increase in distance over a premium ball such as a Pro V1 or Callaway Tour iS, mainly due to the reduced spin characteristics of the Omen.
If you're interested in trying out the Omen metal core golf ball for yourself, you can buy them directly from OnCore Golf at their website. http://shop.oncoregolf.com.  A sleeve will set you back $9.95 and a dozen for $33.95.  I highly recommend you get a sleeve and test them out for yourself.  You might be surprised at how well they perform.
Also, take a minute to check out their Facebook page and "like" them to keep up on all the latest news at OnCore Golf.  http://www.facebook.com/oncoregolf

Reddpost Golf - Are members interested.?

Anyone interested?

I have been writing this blog for over 3 months now and its original intention was to keep our members informed about our the Redpost Golf Society and about golf in general but I now would ask these questions of our members.

  • Do you ever read this?
  • If you have why have you not made any comments even if it is to say its crap?
  • Am I wasting my time?

I know some of our members plead complete computer illiteracy but what about the others? We have a member who works for a large financial institution, an auditor, a self made businessman and others who I know are not completely daft. All i ask is someone to give some guidance and support  as to where we go with communication through the Society. If you happen to read this please kick anyone you might know to do likewise.

I am more than happy to post anything you think would be interesting, I will even type it for you, just get on and do it. Even if you want a bit of publicity for your business I will publish it on a page

At the end of the day, the more readers we get the better the site will get rated and hopefully will make a  bit of money which will help retain our fees at a reasonable level and even give more to a charitable cause.

Apologies for this rant to the one member who does read and respond to the blog - he knows who he is

Reddpost Golf- Missing Secretary

REDPOST GOLF SOCIETY SECRETARY MISSING

You might remember that the person with the classic swing pictured below is the secretary of the Redpost Golf Society.

Unfortunately he might not be able to attend the next event at Hamptworth as he will be assisting the GB sailing team win lots more Olympic medals at Weymouth and Portland.
Therefore he is looking for another member to organise the event, chase up players, tell Trick (unfortunately Paul not Paula) what the tee time is select groups, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc

If you can assist he would be most grateful
